Off to the Beach – Sabinillas

A great day trip for the beach and Italian ice cream

Sabinillas, my first suggestion for a great
day trip, is a lovely wide beach where
the warm waves of the Mediterranean
invites you to jump right in.

Up in the Mountains – La Cueva de La Pileta

A great day trip in the next valley

 

This fascinating cave was accidentally discovered by a farmer in 1905, but rose to great fame when nearly 50 drawings and symbols, estimated to be more than 30,000 years old, were identified later.

 

You will be awe-struck when you see the cave drawings and hear the deafening silence that enfolds you in this pre-historic wonder.

 

The drive there is part of the experience. For your great day trip, leave the lush green cork and oak forests of the Genal behind and within a few minutes you’re climbing a narrow and winding mountain pass with vultures gliding overhead.

The cave can be visited with a guide and by prior arrangement.

Of course, the world-famous “Tajo” with a sheer drop of 120 meters and its just-as-famous Puente Nuevo or “New Bridge” need no introduction.

Legend has it that the architect jumped down the bridge after completion, because he was certain never to be able to build such a masterpiece again!

One with Nature – Butterfly Farm

A great day trip full of  Colour and Caterpillars

Andalucía really has something for everyone !

One of my favorite and most colorful discoveries for a great day trip is the Mariposario in Benalmádena.

 

  • 1500 butterflies flying freely!
  •  See the different reproduction stages such as eggs and caterpillars.
  •  Witness a butterfly hatching right in front of your eyes in the butterfly nursery!
  •  24 – 29 degrees Celsius and a high humidity of around 80%.
  •  gift shop and restaurant
 

 

 

 

Right across the road you can also visit the more than impressive Enlightenment Stupa of Benalmádena with its 33 meters in height.
