Benalauría and the Serrania de Ronda
Experience the unique fusion of pristine nature and food for the soul at Villa Sila in Benalauría, a typical white village in the Serranía de Ronda, a small town in rural Andalucía, only one and a half hours from the Costa del Sol and Málaga airport. In the narrow cobbled streets lined with flower pots, you will always meet a friendly local on his way to a countryside vegetable garden or bringing home some fresh eggs from the chicken coop.
The town boasts three grocery shops with more than you will ever need, a bakery famous beyond the town borders, a bar at the plaza, a pharmacy, museum and a tiny, but unique wine tavern. Just off the main road there is a large municipal pool with a tavern offering views of Gibraltar and North Africa.
The Serranía de Ronda and the Genal Valley not only offer visitors unbeatable views but also a real multitude of activities including hiking, horse riding, via ferrata, guided tours, bird watching, river puddles, prehistoric caves and all this within reach of the typical white villages of the area, including the blue town “El Pueblo Pitufo” of Júzcar.
The nearby town of Ronda has many tourist attractions and for those who want to see something different, the Genalguacil village-museum is half an hour from Benalauría – a place full of live art, sculptures in the streets and surprises around every corner. For those who prefer the beach, the Costa del Sol is just 40 minutes away.
The town is beautiful, almost museum-like, and the walks around the area are gorgeous, especially the ones starting right at the front door.
