Summer Fun
What to Do and Where to Go
This Summer
I know you want to relax, feel the cool summer breeze and just laze on El Balcón’s terrace or look out over the beautiful rolling hills of the Genal Valley from El Jardín’s patio, but some days you also want to jump into your car and experience the area that truly has something for everyone’s taste.
Let me take you on a ride to beaches, lakes, and strange cave houses…
El Chorro, Ardales
Just 1,5 hours from Villa Sila lies this vast expanse of water surrounded by a strange mix of green forests and yellow stony mountains where vultures soar.
You can pack a picknick or eat at the famous El Mirador, which looks out over one of the most beautiful parts of these lakes.
It is safe to swim, there is ample parking and trees that provide cool shade during the hottest hours of the day.
Find your own secluded little beach and listen to the birds and the cicads’ ode to the sun.
Setenil de las Bodegas
Strange and wonderful – that is how I’d describe this little town built into the surrounding cliffs.
Some of the white-washed houses are squashed into the cliffs and many restaurants – with excellent food – have a deep cliff ceiling that makes you feel like you are inside a cave.
It’ll take you less than an hour to get there and, of course, it is always cool here in summer.
And that’s not the only good reason to visit. Try the famous chorizo sausage too!
“It is the perfect place to relax at home or to take a day trip to one of the interesting places close by.”
Flamenca en Ronda
Ronda is our main city for shopping, eating delicious tapas, marvelling at the Tajo and the Puente Nuevo and it also offers an authentic flamenco show in the old casino right in the centre of town.
Ronda Flamenca aims at keeping the tradition of flamenco dancing, flamenco guitar and singing alive and they have found the perfect spot in the old casino at Plaza Socorro.
The show is just over an hour and perfect to enjoy before a typical late Spanish dinner at one of the tapas bars that are all within walking distance.
Beaches, oceans and seas
The Genal river is the best place to cool off on a hot summer’s day, but what if you would like to go where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet?
Well, take a beautiful drive and in just under two hours you can stand on the pier with the Atlantic on one side and the Mediterranean on the other. And you can dip into both!
Tarifa is a small surfer’s paradise with very cute little shops filled with rarities and good ice cream too.
Sabinillas is our local beach. Of course, it’s the Mediterranean, lying on the Costa Del Sol just 40 minutes from Villa Sila. And here you must have an ice cream at Da Vinci!
El Mirlo
Our local bar in Benadalid, only five minutes by car, has had its doors open for a few months now and the people keep on streaming in for the double hamburgers, wraps and our homemade humus.
We’ve had many free concerts, workshops and events such as Marcus Myers, Guille Bujalance, Black Soul and even a workshop on kamishibai puppet theatre.
We’re working on new dishes to spoil your pallet and we’re opening throughout the week this summer, so make a point of coming to enjoy a free concert on a cool summer’s night.
“The food in the area is wonderful and there are many great places to enjoy nearby.”.
Here`s hoping to see you this summer!
